For many Paleogene lithostratigraphic units, major stratigraphic revisions were recently published, such as for the Ieper Group (Steurbaut et al., 2017), the Rupel Group (Vandenberghe & Wouters, 2024) and the Brussels Formation (Houthuys et al., 2023).
For the remaining units, the current stratigraphy still follows the last comprehensive stratigraphic revision by Laga et al. (2001). The Subcommission for Paleogene and Neogene Stratigraphy aims to revise the stratigraphy of all remaining units in the coming years, incorporating new stratigraphic insights and providing detailed formal descriptions for all formal stratigraphic units.
