Lithological description Limestone rich in stromatoporoids and corals forming biostromes separated by fossiliferous argillaceous limestone, fine-grained limestone and thinly-bedded limestone, locally dolomitic.
Age Eifelian
Thickness 380 m in the type area, rapidly decreasing eastwards.
Area of occurrence Southern limb of the Dinant Synclinorium, fully developed west of Nismes, reduced in development between Nismes and Wellin.
Type locality The stratotype of the Couvin Formation is situated along the Eau Noire River, completed by the Abîme cliff in Couvin.
